Johnny McWright, 63, of Potosi, Texas., passed from this earth on December 27, 2020 in Abilene, Texas.
Johnny was a graduate from Abilene High School. Johnny was a hardworking man in many different avenues in life but found his love for being on the road with Bull Hauling early on in life and ended his time on the road as a Commercial LTL Freight Truck Driver with SAIA Motor Freight, logging in more than 3 Million Miles accident free over 23 Years, earning him many awards and a very rewarding career. Johnny was one of many who kept America running while we slept.
In his free time Johnny enjoyed sitting on his porch visiting with his very special neighbors George and Janie, going down to the coffee shop, and talking with the “Old Timers”, plowing up the field on his tractor, working outdoors and fishing and dove hunting with his family and friends. Johnny enjoyed taking motorcycle trips to the Big Bend area of West Texas, New Mexico, Colorado or wherever the road might take him with his closest friends or as they all referred to themselves as “Brothers”. Johnny’s true enjoyment came when he and his wife, Susan, would load up and once again hit the road to travel to beautiful destinations such as South Dakota or Michigan and places alike where they could take on new adventures together. Johnny always had a great story or two to tell of their trips and could not wait to head out again, just not during the West Texas Dove Season because that special time only comes one time a year.
Johnny was an opposing stature of a man, but his family called him their “Gentle Giant”. The biggest thing with Johnny was by far his heart, he was always there to give a word of encouragement or lend a helping hand. He had an infectious laugh and a very witty sense of humor. He not only filled a room when he walked in, he brightened it as well. Johnny was loved by all who knew him and will be truly missed.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Carles and Helen McWright Raper; an infant sister Carlene McWright; brother Randy McWright; nephews Douglas McWright and Shawn Halfmann; and Brothers-in-law Jimmy Smith and Steven Halfmann.
He is survived by his spouse Susan McWright, son Stacy McWright and wife Jessi, daughter Becky Wyatt and husband Heath, son John Milam and wife Amy; brother Donald McWright; sisters Darlene Smith and Dr. Sherry Halfmann; grandchildren Kaitlee, Kallen, Hadlee, Tanner, Miles, and Matthew; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday, December 30th at 3:00pm at Lakeview Cemetery in Winters, Texas with Clark Bosher officiating. John Milam, Tanner Milam, Cory Hofacket, Kent Northcutt, Keith Timms, and Rick Hamrick will serve as pallbearers.
