Johnny Bell

Johnny Bell, 92, formerly of Abilene, died Sunday, August 22, 2010 in Round Rock, Texas. Born in Iowa Park, Texas on April 13, 1918, Johnny was the son of Lucy (Mills) and John Thomas Bell. He grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and returned to Iowa Park his senior year, graduating from Iowa Park High School. Johnny married Claydene Teal on April 15, 1939 in Walters, Oklahoma. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. Since 1954, he had been a resident of Abilene except for a few years in Fort Worth, Texas. Mr. Bell was a self-employed oil operator. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Abilene. Johnny was preceded in death by his wife, Claydene Bell, on November 3, 2006; parents; sister, Ardith Mae Bailey; and half-sister, Hazel George. Survivors include his daughter, Susan Parks and husband David of Austin; granddaughter, Paige McClung and husband Kip of Houston; grandsons, David Parks, Jr. and wife Allison of Austin, and Todd Parks and wife Tammie of Abilene; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 28, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, officiated by Rev. Robert Lee. Graveside services will be Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park, Texas. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, August 27, at the funeral home in Abilene.
