John M. Shoemaker

John M. Shoemaker, age 62, of Abilene, TX passed away on January 24, 2019.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 27th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.  Graveside services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, January 28th, at Elmwood Memorial Park.  A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am at Wylie Baptist Church.

John was born in Abilene, TX to William “Bill” and Pearl (Galle) Shoemaker on November 6th, 1956.  He attended school in Abilene and graduated from Cooper High School in 1975.  John served on the Taylor County Farm Bureau Board and was a big part of the View community. He retired from AISD after many years of faithful service.  John loved softball, dancing, and most of all – farming. 

John was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Pearl Shoemaker, sister Carolyn Horeis, grandparents Hugo an Erna Galle, aunt Joyce Statuzenbuger, aunt and uncle Erwin and Ruth Galle, and cousin Sonny Galle.

John is survived by cousins Charles Galle, Diane and husband Jody Wittie, Mike and wife Annie Galle, Kenny and wife Tracie Galle, Wade and wife Eileen Statuzenbuger, Fridea and husband Jim Alexander, Vince and wife Hellen Kenney, Jason Kenney, Joyce Tiner, Amy Galle, aunt Ruth Herman, Leon Herman, John Herman, Janice Herman.

Pallbearers will be dear friends Cliff Graves, Troy Pinkston, Steve Longmire, Randy Beard, Todd Johnson, Kirk Brown.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
