John R. "Jack" Riley, 90, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at an Abilene medical center.
Born in San Francisco, California on June 28, 1920, Jack was the son of Donica Stella (Kasich) and John Phillip Riley. He enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps in 1941 and was discharged in 1945. He married Sara Eugenia Britton on December 23, 1945 in Yuma, Arizona. Mr. Riley was an executive for Western Union for 35 years and worked in Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Jose, CA, New York and Minneapolis, MN.
Since 1980 he had been a resident of Abilene, where he was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He also had been a member of Rotary International, Lions Club, and was a Shriner, as well as Western Union Retiree Group and Minneapolis Retiree Group.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean B. Riley, on December 12, 2006; parents, John P. and Donica S. Riley; brother, William J. Riley; and cousin, Richard Paganelli.
Jack is survived by cousins, Janye Pointer of Perryton, TX, Jimmie Todd of Odessa, Jane Adams of Abilene, Barbara Culver of Seminole, TX, Kathy Kasich and Jerry Kasich of Whitesboro, TX and Patty Sherry of San Jose, CA; friends, Easter Hothan and Dolores Garcia of Abilene and Mary Scanlon of San Francisco; and special friend, Colleen Keets of Abilene.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 1, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Entombment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
