John Cutler O'Loughlin

1923 — October 26, 2005

Dr. John Cutler O'Loughlin, MD, 81, died peacefully at his home in Abilene, Texas on October 26, 2005 with his family at his side, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2005, at 9:30 am at Holy Family Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Elmwood Memorial Park, under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Prayer services will be Monday, October 31, 2005 at 7:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Dr. O' Loughlin was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 3, 1923, to Daniel James O'Loughlin and Louise Cutler O'Loughlin. He served in the European Theatre of World War II in the 41st Tank Battalion, 11th Armored Division, and Third Army. Dr. O'Loughlin was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He married Kathleen (Trina) Ann Strong in Ludlow, Vermont on April 30, 1966. Dr. and Mrs. O'Loughlin moved to Abilene in 1966 from Hanover, New Hampshire. He was a member of many clubs and organizations, which included: the Taylor, Jones and Haskell Medical Societies, the Harvard Club of Dallas, the 11th Armored Division Veterans, the American Board of Neurological Surgery, the Texas Medical Association, Texas Association of Neurological Surgeons, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He attended the University of Utah before D-Day, and attended and graduated from Harvard after the war. He graduated from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, served his internship and Medical Residency at the University of Michigan, and his neurosurgical Residency at Dartmouth Medical School. He was a Family Practitioner in Jal, New Mexico from 1955 through 1961 and practiced Neurological Surgery in Abilene, Texas from 1966 through 1996. He was on the staff of Hendrick Medical Center for thirty years. Dr. O'Loughlin was preceded in death by wife Maralyn Welsh O'Loughlin, his parents and his brother Daniel Richard O'Loughlin. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Trina) Ann Strong O'Loughlin, his sons, John Michael O'Loughlin and his wife, Vitta; Dan David O'Loughlin and his wife Annette; Mark Andrew O'Loughlin and his wife Laura; Matthew Sean O'Loughlin; and his daughters, Kathy Lyn Cox and her husband Gordon; Jennifer Lee Brooks and her husband Jon; Suzanne Marie Noyes and her husband Jason; Leslie Ann McDonald and her husband Lonnie;13 Grandchildren and 5 Great-Grandchildren.
