John Douglas Morris

John Douglas "Doug" Morris, 64, of Abilene, passed Friday, February 18, 2011 at his residence. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. Born in Bryan, Texas on April 16, 1946, Doug was the son of Jimmy R. Morris and Imogene Ferguson Morris-Petty. The Morris family moved to Abilene in 1948. Doug graduated from Cooper High School in 1964 and received a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree from Texas Christian University in 1969. Doug served in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1975. He married Linda Wretman in August of 1984. At the time of his death, Doug was the owner of Brecko Corp., a welding supply distributor. Doug was a charter member of the Fairway Oaks Country Club, and served as the President of the Fairway Oaks Homeowner's Association. Survivors include his wife, Linda Morris, son Robert Morris, brother Jimmy Morris, Jr. and sister, Mindy Morris, all of Abilene; niece Shelly Morris of Van Nuys, California, sister-in-law, Carol Malone of Abilene; nephew Derrik Malone and wife Cathy of Magnolia, niece Stacie Bingham and husband Brandon of Dallas, nephew Clay Kelley and wife Michelle and one great-nephew, Bryson Bingham also of Dallas. Doug lived each day to its ultimate good. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Taylor Jones Humane Society, 3811 North 1st St., Abilene, TX 79603; or to Rescue the Animals, 5933 South 1st St., Abilene, TX 79605.
