John Cody Levens

1991 — March 24, 2015

John Cody Levens, 24, of Abilene has left to be with the Lord on March 24, 2015. Please join Cody's family in a celebration of his life at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Beltway Park Church (South Campus) with Paul Wright and Jamey Calvery officiating. Cody will then be placed to rest at Bethel Cemetery in Funston, Texas, under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Cody was born in Abilene to Kevin and Carla Levens on March 7, 1991. Cody attended school in Stamford and Abilene, and was a student at Cooper High School. Cody was currently attending Neecee's School of Cosmetology and he was studying music at Mellis Music Studio. Cody held several different jobs where he touched the lives of everyone with whom he came in contact. Cody's love for music was enormous and he would rejoice in playing his guitar, and most recently, his new banjo. Cody was preceded in death by his grandparents, J.C. and Joyce Levens; his uncle, Kenneth Levens and his sister-in-law, Ruth Levens. Cody is survived by his mother, Carla Levens of Abilene; his father, Kevin Levens of Stamford; his brother, Chris Levens of Abilene; his grandparents, Sam and Jo Hanley of Abilene; his uncle, Scott Hanley of Abilene; aunts, Shannon Young of Abilene,Tara Hanley of Granbury, and Cathy Levens of Prattville, Alabama; nieces, Nikki and Carly Levens of Abilene and numerous cousins and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Levens, Chase Hanley, Dustin Young, Dakota Gray, Payton Herman and Levi Clayton. In memory of Cody Levens, Mellis Music Studio is setting up a special fund to help underprivileged students with the costs associated with learning to play a musical instrument. Such costs include purchasing a quality instrument, instrument maintenance and private, one-on-one instruction provided by MMStudio. Cody was a lover of music and played the guitar and, most recently, he was studying the banjo at MMStudio. Cody's family believes that the best way to honor his memory is to provide a way for his passion for music to live on in others.
