John H. Kennedy, 78, of Abilene passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 in Abilene. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, October 22 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 Friday, October 23 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home with Mike Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Arrangements are by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
John H. Kennedy was born in Ridgely, Tennessee to Elihue and Julia Ann Thurman Kennedy on October 8, 1937. He was raised in several small towns in Missouri. He graduated high school and had the equivalent of two years of college thru the military. He married Addie Sue Jouett on August 30, 1959 in Clovis, New Mexico. He was in the Air Force for twenty four years, and worked for Case Company for two & half years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war and was awarded with the Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, AF Longevity Service with four clusters, USAF NCU PME Graduation Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksman, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with three clusters, AF Commendation Medal, Combat Readiness Medal with two clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Korea Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal 1960, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Medal, Good Conduct Medal –USAF with four clusters, Good Conduct Medal –USAAC.
John H. Kennedy was preceded in death by his father, Elihue; his mother Julia Ann; his sisters Marcell Jackson, Daisy Kennedy & Della Louise Kennedy who died as an infant; and a niece Diane Jackson.
John H. Kennedy is survived by his wife, Addie Sue of Abilene; his son John Jr. & wife Lisa of Cedar Hill, TX. His daughters; Janet Flournoy & husband Van of Scottsdale, AZ & Deborah Martinez & husband Johnny P. of San Antonio, TX. One brother Lonnie and wife Debbie. Two sisters Elizabeth Burnett and Martha Ann Henderson . Nine grandchildren; Angela Sue Kennedy, Kathy Beabout, John Kennedy III, David Elkins, Misty Elkins, Virgil Flournoy, Alexes Flournoy, Syd Flournoy and Joseph Moreno. Six Great grandchildren; Francine Flournoy, Dante Elkins, Lucas & Ryan Beabout, Mia Isabella & Gabriel Moreno. Numerous nieces & nephews and nieces scattered across the country, one locally Blenda Simonton and husband Ken. Two very special couples that have been very close to him, Jack and Mayette Crawford & Glenda and Jay Dover.
