John Patrick “Pat” Gilmore, 90, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 in Abilene, Texas.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Coleman City Cemetery in Coleman, Texas with David Cason, officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas.
Pat was born on April 20, 1929 in Santa Anna, Texas to the late Thomas and Modora (Kirkpatrick) Gilmore. He graduated from Santa Anna High School in 1947 and attended Texas Tech University. After attending college, Pat served in the US Navy. He and Doretha were married on August 9, 1952 in Santa Anna.
Pat worked as Border Patrol Inspector in Florida and Texas and as a U.S. Immigration Inspector in Mobile, Alabama for 34 years. He was an avid golfer, hunter and sports fan. However, his greatest passion was reading. Pat was a member of the Springhill Ave United Methodist Church. He and Doretha moved to Mobile in 1959. On April 20, Pat celebrated his 90th birthday with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Doretha of Mobile; one son, Stephen Lee Gilmore and wife Brandi of St. Cloud, Florida; one daughter, Amelia Faye Walker of Abilene; one brother, Tom Gilmore of Roswell, New Mexico; other family member, Hugh Walker of Alexandria, Louisiana; three granddaughters, Melanie Morris and husband Marshall of Abilene, Lauren Nelson and husband Braden of Abilene and Alexis Hartnett and husband Dan of Seattle, Washington; six great grandchildren, Laney Morris, Parker Morris, Brooks Morris, Archie Nelson all of Abilene, Madison Hartnett and Max Hartnett both of Seattle.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, P.O. Box 1525, Ranson, WV 25438.
