John Casey, 82, died Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at an Abilene nursing home.
Born in Runnels County, Texas on April 24, 1932, John was the son of Ethel Etta (Hamner) and Joseph Thomas Casey. He was a lifelong resident of the Abilene area. He married Monna Vinson on June 3, 1955 in Abilene.
John was a self-employed concrete contractor. He was a member of Wylie United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Tommy Ray Casey; and one sister, Jane Dean.
John is survived by his wife, Monna Casey of Abilene; four sons and spouses, Johnny Casey and Sheron of View, TX, Timmy Casey and Holly of Abilene, Tommy Casey and Jill of Graham, and Terry Casey and Cathy of Abilene; daughter, Jan Casey of Abilene; two brothers and spouses, Joe Casey and Betty Ann, and Richard Casey and Hazel, all of Abilene; one sister, Sarah Doucette of Abilene; fifteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 20, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, at Wylie United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow in Potosi Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, John Bross, Bryon Casey, Aaron Casey, Avery Casey, Kyle Casey, Trevor Casey, Riley Casey, Kegan Casey and Chase Lively.
