John F. Busby, 72, died Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at an Abilene medical center.
Born in San Antonio, Texas on February 18, 1939, John was the son of Lila (Smith) and E. K. Busby. He graduated from Abilene High School and Hardin-Simmons University where he was in the US Army ROTC program. Following graduation, John served in the US Army in Korea for four years before returning to civilian life and attending East Texas State where he received a master's degree in Chemistry. John earned his doctorate degree in Chemistry from Texas Tech University and received a master's degree in Library Science at the University of Texas, Austin. He taught chemistry at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. John was also employed by the United States Geological Survey Division for 25 years.
John married Martha Nell Howle on August 20, 1959 in Abilene
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Martha Nell Busby of Abilene; brother, James Busby of Austin; brother-in-law, Joe Howle and wife Ann of Hawley; sister-in-law, Helen Woodfin and husband Charles of Lubbock; and two nieces, Elizabeth Davis and Melinda Futrell.
A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 12th, in Midway Cemetery at Hodges with Rev. Gayle Baucum officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
