Joe Rex Schulle
Joe Rex Schulle, 80, of Abilene, passed away on Monday May 17th, 2021 in Abilene, TX.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday May 19th at The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday May 20th at The Hamil Family Funeral Home with John Fanning officiating. A private family graveside burial will follow at Potosi Cemetery. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Joe was born in Gouldbusk, Texas to Pete and Elna Schulle on September 27th, 1940. He moved to Abilene in 1949 and graduated from Wylie High School in 1959. A star athlete in school, he played football, basketball, baseball, and ran track. Joe married Linda Blackley Schulle on February 9th, 1958. Together they raised three children and proudly welcomed 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren to the family.
Joe was a jack of all trades. His career included working at Automation, General Dynamics, McKesson & Robbins, and Lockheed, to name a few. In the 1970’s and 80’s, Joe ran a burger stand called Pete’s What-O-Burger, which his father had purchased in 1963. He was also a Wylie ISD school bus driver for several years. Joe retired from Lockheed in 1996, where he had been supervisor of inventory and shipping and receiving.
Later in life, Joe enjoyed tending to his many farm animals and spending time with his family. He could usually be found working in the barn or sitting in the kitchen, enjoying his favorite drink, Clamato and beer.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Donna Schulle Middleton.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Linda Schulle; daughter Tana Schulle; son B.J. Schulle and wife Michele; son Kevin Schulle and wife Rachael; sister Wanda Proctor; four grandchildren and spouses, Casey Schulle, Jarrett Schulle and Laura, Bryan Schulle and Madeline, and Ashlyn Carmichael and Brandon; and four great-grandchildren, Allisyn, Jaxon, Elinor, and Oliver.
