One of the sweetest men you could ever know passed from this life on Saturday, June 13th, 2015 in his home in Abilene, Texas. Joe Pace was one of those special guys who was always taking care of everyone else.
In his early career he worked for Wooten’s Grocery, and then Kimbell Foods, and later was co-owner of Wholesale Food Supply in Abilene, Texas. Once he retired from the grocery business, he started a second career dealing with his favorite pass-time, RV’s. He worked as the parts manager at Franklin RV in Abilene and Clyde. Joe loved camping with his beloved wife in their motor home, and spending time with his precious family and friends playing dominoes and cards. He would make certain that everyone else’s RV was properly set up and running before he took care of his own.
Joe was born in Estelline, TX on September 6, 1930. He grew up in California and ended up in Avoca, TX, where he met and married the love of his life, Mary Lou Watts. They enjoyed over 65 years together, mostly in Abilene, Texas.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Pace; his children, Danny Pace, and wife Karon of Graham, Sharon Pace of Denton, Susan Jones and husband Tracy of Abilene, and Greg Pace of Abilene; his brother, Charles Lee Pace; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, led by Pastor Larry Watts and Reverend Paul Matta. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 15, at the funeral home.
