Joe Calvin McDonald

Joe Calvin McDonald, 85, of Abilene, formerly of Conroe, passed away on September 11, 2023.

Visitation will be Monday, September 18, 10:00 am at Elmwood Memorial Park followed by a graveside service at 11:00.  Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Joe was born September 16,1937 in Highlands, Texas to J. C. and Bertie McDonald.   He and his family moved to the Conroe, Texas area where he graduated high school.

He attended Abilene Christian College where he met his wife, Frances Annette Bowers, of 64 years.  They married on September 1, 1957, in Lamesa, Texas.  He was a wonderful, Christian husband, dad, and Papa.

He was a great provider for his family owning several businesses.  Many say he was the most generous man they knew.  He lived an example of strong work ethic, loving Jesus and being a man of his word.  He lived a joyful, fulfilled life always showing that great big smile everywhere he went.  He loved his family and friends very much and would do anything for them. 

He was currently a member at the Oldham Lane Church of Christ, but a long time member at Longmire Road Church of Christ in Conroe, Texas where he served as an elder for a few years.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Annette McDonald and his parents and two sisters, Glenda Sue McDonald and Jimmie Marie Metts. He is survived by his daughter Pam Mauldin and husband Darrell of Abilene, two sons, Tim McDonald and wife Tammy of Missouri City, and Jon McDonald and wife Julie, of Abilene; two sisters, Garnetta Lee Stanyer of Grapevine, and Lurany Jones of Conroe, one brother, Tommy McDonald of Conroe; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Hancock and husband Harold of Burnet, and Nancy Peterson and husband Eddie of Snyder, and seven grandchildren, Travis and Connor Mauldin, Dustin and Wyatt Wink; Casey Pollard, Katie Marchant and Callie Lucas, and seven great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Travis Mauldin, Connor Mauldin, Dustin Wink, Wyatt Wink, Justin Pollard, Luke Marchant, and Garrett Lucas.

Memorial donations may be made in Joe’s honor to Oldham Lane Church of Christ, 5049 Oldham Lane, Abilene, TX 79602 or Hendrick Hospice at  https://www.hendrickhealth.org/give/donate-online/.  Choose Hospice General Fund.
