JoAnn Nutt

JoAnn Nutt, age 88, of Abilene, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020 in Abilene. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2020, 11 a.m. at the Highland Church of Christ with Mike Cope officiating. The service will be livestreamed on youtube.com/HighlandAbilene. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home. JoAnn was born on July 7, 1932 in Houston, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Cecil and Mabank (Barnett) Ewing. She graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas in 1949 and Abilene Christian College in 1953. She and Rex were married on August 28, 1953 in Dallas. While at ACC, she was a member of Ko Jo Kai social club. She was also a member of The Grace Museum’s auxiliary, Los Aficionados, and was a strong supporter of the Texas Physical Therapy Association and the American Physical Therapy Association. She served as president of the Auxiliary of the Private Practice section of American Physical Therapy Association and served on the Board of Directors of Disability Resources, Inc. JoAnn owned and operated DeLila Skin Care from 1982-2015. JoAnn was a member of the Highland Church of Christ. She and Rex moved to Abilene in 1989 from Houston to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Throughout her life, JoAnn was a homemaker and volunteer who loved entertaining friends and family, traveling the world with Rex, her family, and dear friends, as well as keeping up with NBA basketball, especially the Houston Rockets. JoAnn was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil G. Ewing. She is survived by her husband Rex of Abilene; two sons, Bob Nutt and wife Suzetta, and Ron Nutt both of Abilene; and three grandchildren, Lauren Young, Ryan Nutt, and Tabby Nutt. Memorials may be made to Disability Resources Inc., Christian Service Center, the Physical Therapy Department at Hardin-Simmons University, or the charity of your choice.
