Joan Brooks Jones, 81, a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on October 16, 2016, at Grace Hospital in Lubbock.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 21, from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 22nd at Highland Church of Christ with Jonathan Storment of Highland officiating. Burial will follow at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Joan was born in Amarillo, TX, to Howard and Blanche Brooks on November 15, 1934. She graduated from Amarillo High School and Abilene Christian College. She married Jon Jones on August 22, 1955, in Amarillo. She touched the lives of many during her years as a first grade teacher at Fort Worth Christian School and through her involvement with the ministry Bread for a Hungry World (now known as Christian Relief Fund). She served faithfully as a preacher's wife for many years at Central Church of Christ in Miami, FL and The Hills Church of Christ in North Richland Hills, TX. She was well-known as a welcoming, gracious hostess, and had a gift for making every-day moments beautiful. People in her presence were comforted by her kind spirit, her encouraging words, and calm assurance.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Blanche Brooks.
Joan is survived by the love of her life, and husband of 61 years, Jon, of Abilene; Children, Jan Patterson and her husband Jeff of Abilene, Jeff Jones and his wife JoAnn of Colorado Springs, CO, Julie Brown and her husband Scott of Abilene; Brothers, Dick Brooks of Amarillo, Bill Brooks and his wife Jean of Flower Mound; Grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Joy and Ben Langford, and their children Elijah, Emeline, and Eloise, Jessica and Sam Selby, and their children Gabriel and Brooklynn, Jonathan and Alyson Brown, and their daughter Emilia, Michelle and Chad Robinson, Jaimie and Will Morgan, Joshua Patterson, Ryan Brown, and Julia Patterson.
