Jo Ellen Lawler, age 76, died on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 after a lengthy illness with her loving children by her side. She was one of ten children born to Ross and Nellie Glasgow in Temple, Oklahoma. She moved to Texas as a young bride and came to love all things Texan, especially the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys. She was married for almost 53 years to Clyde Lawler until his death in 2003. She worked for many years at Abilene State School where she was affectionately known as "Mama Jo." She then worked at Hendrick Medical Center until her retirement in 1991.
Her greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Broadview Baptist Church.
She is survived by her four children, Diane Dean and husband, Johnny, of Kingwood, Janice Roberts of Grand Prairie, Tommy Lawler and wife, Ann, of Benbrook, and Pam Robinson and husband, Wyatt, of Abilene; ten grandchildren, Jennifer Dean, Emily Frye, Amanda Roberts, Shawn Roberts, Kara Medlock, Greg Lawler, Justin Robinson, Sarah Moore, Keith Robinson, and Stephen Robinson; six great-grandchildren, Janah, Corbin, Natalie, Madison, Addison and Blake; five sisters, Evelyne Heath, Geraldine Cole and husband, Johnny, Peggy Joyce Wall and husband, T. C., Gale Morris and husband, Ernest, and Glenda Kaye Thurman; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Daisy Lawler.
The graveside service will be at 12 noon Saturday, February 21st, in the Garden of Memories Cemetery with Rev. David Cason officiating, under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Visitation will be 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
