Jimmy Lewis Floyd, 81, a native of the Big Country, passed away Friday, August 23, 2013 at an Abilene medical center.
The son of the late Pinkie (Milligan) and David Matthew Floyd, Jimmy was born on December 21, 1931 in Merkel, Texas, and graduated from Merkel High School. He served in the National Guard. Jimmy was an electrician, and retired from AT &T after a 35-year career. He was a Methodist.
Jimmy loved his children. Marla, the apple of her father’s eye, recalls his unique sense of humor and the fun and laughter that always accompanied his presence. David treasures memories of countless hours spent with his dad as a supporter and coach of his Southern Little League Baseball team for several years. Jimmy also loved his grandchildren, treating them to frequent Putt Putt Golf games and trips for donuts.
Jimmy’s favorite pastime was fishing at Kirby Lake and Comanche Shores where he had lived for the past 23 years.
Survivors include his son, David Floyd of Clyde; daughter, Marla Svedeman and husband Steve of San Antonio; grandchildren, Shannon Svedeman and Brian Svedeman; brother, David Leon Floyd of Abilene and sister Eulalah Brown of Lubbock.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, in Potosi Cemetery with Herluth Faulks officiating. Arrangements are being made by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
