Jimmy Courtney

Jimmy Leon Courtney, 76, of Abilene, TX, passed away on August 22, 2024, in Abilene.

Visitation and viewing will be from 9:00-10:00 with funeral services at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Wylie Baptist Church, 6097 Buffalo Gap Rd. with Pastor Mike Harkrider officiating. Services are under the direction of Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd.

A burial with military honors will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Texas State Veteran's Cemetery, 7457 W. Lake Rd., Abilene, 79601.

Jimmy was born in Stamford, TX to Edwin J. Courtney and Juanita Edwards Courtney on July 3, 1948. He graduated from Manor High School in Manor, TX. He drafted into the Army and served as a tank mechanic in Viet Nam from 1969-1974. While in the service he married Earla Uber in 1970 in Blacktown, PA. The marriage produced two daughters, Sherry & Kimberly. The marriage was later divorced. He later moved to Abilene, and married Paunell Morton in 1977.

Jimmy was preceded in death by wife, Paunell in 2021, father and stepmother, Edwin, and Olga Jean Courtney; half-brother, Lonnie; brother, Raymond Don; & sister, Ima Jean Culley.

Jimmy is survived by two daughters, Sherry Courtney & Kimberly Maire & husband, John; three granddaughters and one grandson; stepson, Paul Morton; brother, Roy Thomas Courtney & wife, Brenda; half-sister, Dorothy Robinson & husband, Roy; numerous nieces and nephews, and other numerous relatives.

The family of Jimmy Courtney wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of Hendricks Hospitals N&S who took wonderful care of him during his many hospital stays between January-August, 2024. Also, thanks to Northern Oaks nurses & staff & rehab for caring so kindly during his many stays there. We also thank the Christian friends from his two churches who led Jim along his Christian journey and helped him find and love the Lord, Jesus Christ.
