Jimmie "Jim" Paul Steadman, 76, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 in Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28th at Beltway Park Chapel at the South Campus. Funeral services will be follow at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church chapel with Guy Brown from Dallas, Texas officiating. Burial will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Park directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
Jim was born in Dallas, Texas to Paul and Orpha Steadman on July 4, 1941. He went to school in DeSoto, Texas, graduating in 1959. He then attended Hardin-Simmons University where he played football and graduated in 1963. On May 30th, 1964 he married Joy. They spent over 53 years together and had three children, Brent, Betsy and Sarah. Jim worked for years as a coach and teacher, and was a devoted mentor to many young men and boys. He spent many summers leading a boys' camp outside of Palestine, Texas, where he taught boys about the outdoors and growing up to be a Godly man. He also helped start one of the first high school chapters of FCA at W. T. White High School in Dallas.
Jim Steadman was known for valuing hard work, commitment, consistency and loyalty. He cherished his friends, his family and his Savior. Jim's favorite things in life were hunting, sharing stories with friends and laughing. He loved his two special coffee shop groups and the "Circle K" group from college.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Orpha Steadman.
Jim is survived by his wife, Joy Steadman; his son Brent Steadman and his wife Emily; his daughter Betsy Beck and her husband Mike, and his other daughter Sarah Higgs and her husband Carson. He is also survived by his brother Mike Steadman and his wife Mary, and his ten grandchildren: Jerod Beck, Joshua Beck, Ally Steadman, Grace Steadman, Jon Paul Beck, Caroline Steadman, Jack Steadman, Charissa Higgs, Lydia Higgs and Calvin Higgs.
In lieu of flowers, Jim has requested that any donations be given to Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
