Jim Poor, 64, of Hodges died Thursday, June 16, 2011, at an Abilene medical center.
Born in Abilene, Texas on May 29, 1947, Jim was the son of Janet and J. L. Poor. After graduating from Cooper High School in 1967, he attended Cisco Junior College for a short time. Jim served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After his return home from military service, Jim made a living making and selling guns. He was also a very good all-round mechanic and fabricator, but most recently dealt in and worked on motorcycles.
Jim also enjoyed hunting, clay shooting and riding motocycles. He was reared in the Caps United Methodist Church and more recently attended The Cowboy Church in Abilene.
He loved his daughter Callie above and beyond, and was a loyal and loving son and brother. He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Poor on March 22, 2011.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Callie Jeanette Shelton and husband Zach of Abilene; father, J. L. Poor of Hodges; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Libby Poor of Abilene; sister, Pamela Phillips of Abilene; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 18, in the chapel at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene with Pastor Robert Winters officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
