Jerry Hewitt

Jerry Hewitt, 79, of Hamby passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 30, 2023, in Abilene, TX. A celebration of life will be held Monday, December 4th at 2 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6649 Buffalo Gap Rd. Services will be led by his long-time friend, Pastor Rick Hargrove. Burial will follow at Hamby Cemetery.

Jerry was born in Abilene, TX, to William and Lille Hewitt on November 2, 1944, being the youngest of 11 children. He married his wife, Gail, on June 13, 1965, in Abilene TX. He owned and operated his own company "Hewitt Painting" for over 40 years working up until the age of 72. He was a published local musician, who spent many years playing guitar and utilizing his beautiful singing voice. One of his proudest moments was in 1989 when he wrote and recorded his gospel album "Jesus Works for Me" in Nashville. Jerry never met a stranger and was always willing and ready to help any person in need. He was a mentor to many and a friend to all. After his siblings passed, he was a second father to many of his nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, father, six sisters, four brothers, a son, two grandsons, and a son-in-law. Jerry is survived by his wife Gail Hewitt, daughters Shelly Hewitt, Stacey Levrets (Randy), Stephanie Miller, Kelly Hewitt-Hamm (Kelly), two sons Troy Hall and Brian Hewitt, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. 

Pallbearers will be grandsons Jerry Don, Dakota, and Jacob Thornton, Brian Heffernan, Austin Hewitt, and Tristan Crabb. Memorials may be given to Love & Care Ministry.
