J. M. Allen, 75, of Abilene, died Tuesday, May 19 2009, at his residence in Abilene, Texas.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 22, at First Baptist Church, 733 N. Broadway in Aspermont, officiated by Rev. Mickey Waggoner. Interment will follow in Aspermont Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home, Highway 83 and Washington in Aspermont. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McCoy Funeral Home in Aspermont. Local arrangements were made by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, Texas.
J. M. was born on May 16, 1934, in Stonewall County, Texas. He owned and operated J.M.A. Welding Service for over 10 years, and while working in the Oilfield, he signed on as a pumper for Remuda Oil & Gas of Midland. He ranched with this mother north of Aspermont until he retired and moved to Abilene in 1999.
His passions in life were keeping his yard, having truly had a green thumb; discussing the world's issues with his friends at coffee; and listening to his favorite music, "Elvis was the King"! But better than any of these things, his granddaughter, Callie Briann Vinson, was the light of his life.
He was a very devoted, loving Daddy and will always be alive in our hearts and our minds.
J. M. Allen was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Gholson/Jones; his father, Jerry Allen; and a brother, Evin Dale Allen.
He had one daughter, Debbie J. Brewster and her husband, Tom Brewster, of Abilene; two grandsons, David Lee Vinson and Jerry Cumbie, both of Abilene; and also four great-grandchildren. He will be missed but always remembered!
