Jerrel D. Woodard, 82, of Hodges, died at home in the loving care of his family on April 18, 2017.
Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home at 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, April 21.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Saturday, April 22nd at Hodges Baptist Church with Matt Cheevers, officiating. Burial will follow at Midway Cemetery in Hodges.
Jerrel was born in Truby to Barney and Annie Belle on April 24, 1934. He married Johnnie Mae Horton on June 18, 1955 in Abilene. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1974. He was awarded the following medals for Vietnam War Service, Good Conduct, Commendation, and National Defense. He was a Deacon at the Hodges Baptist Church. Jerrel enjoyed playing dominoes, dart baseball, and watching his grandkids and great grandkids in whatever they participated in.
Jerrel was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers – Rupert, Jake, Bobby Dean, Nolan, Marvin, Sunny, and James Ray; three sisters – Gethral Hickey, Naomi Ledbetter, and Lola Faye Henderson.
Jerrel is survived by his wife Johnnie, three children, Donna Ellis and husband Don of Farmington, New Mexico; Sheila Thompson and husband Ricky of Hodges; and Dennis Woodard and wife Carolyn of Hodges. Baby sister – Martha Ann Joyce of Rising Star. Nine grandchildren – Krissy, Jason, Chad, Stephanie, Kelly, Joshua, Zackary, Chance, and Dalton. Nine great-grandchildren – Blake, Jacob, Kambree, Brycen, Hayden, Addie Grace, Blane, Jaxson, and Sierra.
Pallbearers will be Jason Barclay, Chance Woodard, Nick Knight, Logan Vinson, Heath Stofel, and Joe Woodard.
Honorary Pallbearers are Dennis Woodard, Ricky Thompson, Don Ellis, DeVerl Harp, and John Lewis.
