Jeffrey Howard McCoy of Abilene, died June 5, 2007 at the age of 40. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Friday, June 8 at the Beltway Park Baptist Church with Sr. Pastor David McQueen officiating. Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 7 at the Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
On December 12, 1966, Jeff was born to Eldon H. McCoy and Alva "Kelley" McCoy in Abilene, TX. He graduated from Cooper High School in 1985, then went on to graduate from Hardin Simmons University where he was a member of the world famous Cowboy Band. He graduated from the Police Academy in December 1989. On January 18, 2001, he married Sandy Trent in Las Vegas, NV. Jeff was a Boy Scout, a member of the Walk to Emmaus community, Kioros Prison Ministry, Abilene Police Officer Assn, Jesus Crew, Co-Founder of the Brothers in Blue, and a previous Field Training Officer. He was a team member for the Israel Mission Trip at Beltway Park. Jeff was a recipient of several distinguished awards including The Police Shield, Certificate of Merit, and Certified Master Peace Officer.
Jeff McCoy was a husband, a father, a brother, a friend, and a peace officer. He was a devout man of God. He imitated his Lord and walked obediently in the spirit of humility. He displayed a genuine compassion for all and he took every opportunity to share the gospel of Christ with others. As a husband, he showed endless love to his wife, Sandy. As a father, his pride and joy was his beautiful daughter, Ella. As a friend, he was always there when you needed one. As a Police Officer, he provided all he had to the community and gave all his heart to better serve the lives of others and fellow officers in Brothers in Blue. He lived his life as an example to others so that they too, could shine brightly with the light of Christ. He lived Matthew 6:21, " For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also". As a brother, none could be loved more or be closer, his heart goes on.
Jeff is survived by his parents; his wife, Sandy McCoy; his daughter, Ella Isabelle McCoy; one brother, Randy McCoy and wife DeeDee of Ft. Worth; his mother and father-in-law, Leonard and Dottie Trent of Abilene; one aunt, Donna Nichols of Abilene; one nephew, Chester McCoy and one niece, Sarah McCoy of Ft. Worth; and his fellow officers, friends and extended family members.
Serving as pallbearers will be Adam Lopez, Gary Bone, Samy Sanchez, Randy McCoy, Jose Muniz, and Brent Irby.
