Beloved by family and friends, Jeanette lived a life of service, commitment and devotion to her Lord, her church and community.
Betty "Jeanette" Karrenbrock was born July 7, 1931, in Fort Collins, Colorado to Harry and Frances Parsons. She grew up in Hastings, Nebraska where she graduated from Northeast High School and then attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma. She met and married her husband of 53 years, the late Lt. Col. Karl Karrenbrock of Abilene, Texas. They spent numerous years stationed in various places around the country, including overseas in England. During this time Jeanette lived a busy life devoted to the rearing of her five children. They moved to Abilene in 1973 where Karl was stationed at Dyess AFB. Jeanette went to work for the City of Abilene in 1974, serving as the Outreach and Transportation Supervisor for the Senior Citizens Division at Rose Park Senior Center. She loved elderly people and showed her rare gift of caring by reaching out to the community in the work she did. She retired after 21 years of service.
Jeanette was an active member of Brook Hollow Christian Church for 35 years. She was an Elder Emeritus, Deaconess, Adult and Children's Sunday School teacher, Worship Chairman, CWF leader, choir and bell choir member. She was also active in the Central Area of Christian Churches of the Southwest and participated as a voting delegate in yearly assemblies around the United States.
Jeanette's interests included a love for music throughout her life: playing the cello and piano, singing solos in church and for various engagements. She was an avid symphony attendee and sang in community choirs such as the Celebration Singers and most recently the Harmony Club. Other community involvement included Women of Rotary, Toastmasters and Bible Study Fellowship. Her love of serving and commitment to these worthy programs demonstrate the life she lived and the tireless giving of her time and talents.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Karrenbrock. Her survivors include: daughters, Kristin Shultz and husband, Landon, of Austin, Susan Karrenbrock of Wichita, Kansas, Elaine Tucker and husband, Stephen of Independence, Kansas and Kelley Holcomb and husband Gary of Terrell, Texas; a son, Kevin Karrenbrock and wife, Judy of Lindale, Texas; two sisters: Patricia Parsons of Oak Park, Illinois and Judy Roberts of Durham, N. Carolina; 14 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
Jeanette's favorite verse is found in Proverbs 3:5 -6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight."
