Jean King “Granny King”, 82, of Tuscola, passed away on December 23, 2020 in Abilene, TX. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday December 26, 2020 at New Beginnings United Pentecostal Church, 5535 Buffalo Gap Rd. Abilene, TX, with the Reverend James E. King II and Reverend Jackie King officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will follow at Ross Cemetery in Baird. Jean was born in Wilbarger County to Walter and Jessie Gaebler on March 10, 1938. She went to school at Lockett. She graduated from Lockett High School. She married James E. King I on June 1, 1956 in Vernon, TX. She worked as a cook and kitchen supervisor for University Place for 15+ years until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Grace Ministries in Abilene pastored by her son, James King II. She loved to cook and sew for her family and friends. She was “Granny King” to everyone. Jean was preceded in death by both parents; Walter and Jessie Gaebler; husband of 35 years, James E. King I; two sisters, Mabel Rushing and Maurine Hamilton; brother, Walter M. Gaebler. Jean is survived by two sons, James E. King II and wife Sharon of Tuscola, TX; Jackie King and wife Renae of La Porte, TX; and one daughter, Janea Copaus and husband Melvin of Tuscola, TX. Eight grandchildren; Kristal Stevens and husband Jared; James E. King III and wife Traci; Nicole Barksdale and husband Butch; Cherish Wiles; Ricky King; Chelsea Briones and husband Raul; Chantry Copaus and wife Brooke; Jeremy King and wife Gloria; 16 great-grandchildren; Sisters, Junita Bowland and Vivian Baldwin; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family. Pallbearers will be James E. King III; Chantry Copaus; Ricky King; Jared Stevens; Butch Barksdale; Mike Raughton Honorary Pallbearers: Jeremy King; JE King; Deagan King; Liam Barksdale; Tucker Barksdale; Brantley Wiles The family of Jean King wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the ICU staff at Hendricks South for the exemplary care.
