Jasper Lanier Meeks

1928 — April 30, 2018

Jasper Lanier (Jack) Meeks, 90 years old, passed from this life on his birthday, April 30, 2018 in Abilene, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, May 3, 2018 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, with Rev. Jim Ritter of Hamby Baptist Church and Rev. T.C. Melton officiating.  Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Born in Adrian, Georgia on April 30, 1928, to Grady and Nina Meeks, Jack was the 5th son of six.  The “Rebel of the family” until in a Texas Prison on May 7th, 1973 on his knees gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ.  At that time, he received the love and peace of God that he had been seeking all his life.  He asked God to give him the ability to tell others about Him so that they could understand. That request was granted and he spent the rest of his life telling all who would listen that Jesus Christ could change a life.  He went on to speak in many churches, 28 foreign mission trips, and spent 25 plus years as a platform speaker for Bill Glass “Weekend of Champions”.  He also served as a chaplain at Abilene Regional Medical Center for 10 years, and on Saturday nights worked with the Substance Abuse men.  In all of the years from the time of his salvation until he drew his last breath, his commitment and zeal for the Lord Jesus never wained.  Because of this powerful testimony, many lives have changed and souls saved.  He will be greatly missed.

Jack worked many years as an ironworker, hanging the first piece of iron at Dyess Air Force Base.  He also was a connector on the old Citizens National Bank Building.  He later joined the pipe fitters union and worked on the Trans-Atlantic Pipeline in Alaska 10 years.  He owned HydroWorld Corp, a business that treats lime and calcium scale with magnets, eliminating the need for chemicals, holding two U.S. Patents.

He was preceded in death by two children, Linda Darlene and Gary, and all five siblings.

He is survived by spouse, Billie Meeks; daughter, Robin Ryckman and husband Buck; son, Mark and wife Paula of Boerne, TX; son, Woodrow of Mission, TX; and daughter, Carlette Wilson of New Zealand, as well as the “light of his life” grandchildren, Joshua, Jordan, Jake, Dalton, Jack Lanier, Kathryn, Elizabeth and Emma, and two great-grandchildren, Zoe and Chloe.

Memorials may be given to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1651 Pine Street, Abilene, TX 79601.

The family of Jack Meeks wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Anton Melnyk, Dr. Tommie Farrell, Hendrick Hospice Care and the special nurses and aids who were invaluable to us during this time.
