Jarrett Phillip (Pete) Schulle
Jarrett Phillip (Pete) Schulle, 92, passed away in Abilene, Texas on Tuesday, January 22, 2013.
Graveside services were held on Friday, January 25, in Potosi Cemetery under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
J.P. (Pete) Schulle was born on February 5, 1920 in the Fisk Community in Coleman County, Texas to Phillip Fritz Schulle and Una Atkins Schulle. He was the oldest boy of ten children.
Pete and Elna Ashmore Schulle were married in Santa Anna, Texas on November 11, 1939, and moved to Abilene in 1949 after the birth of Joe Rex and Wanda. Donna was born in Abilene. Pete went to work as one of the first transport drivers for Mrs. Baird’s Bread and worked for them for 13 years. Pete and Elna purchased Bob’s What-A-Burger in 1963, and later built Pete’s Grocery in Potosi in 1971. All of those who knew him called Pete the “Mayor of Potosi” because he knew most everyone in the community at that time and was able to give directions to those who were trying to locate people who lived there. He later delivered gas and diesel to the farmers and ranchers in the outlying areas.
Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Elna Schulle; parents; five sisters, Edith Kawoski, Velma Lee Edwards, Mildred Davis, Freda Howard and Evelyn Studdard; and three brothers, Leroy Schulle, Glen Schulle and Wilburn Schulle.
Survivors include his son, Joe Rex Schulle and wife Linda of Abilene; daughters, Wanda Proctor and Donna Middleton both of Abilene; and one brother, Jimmy Schulle and wife, Charlene of Bangs, Texas. Pete is also survived by six grandchildren and spouses, Tana Schulle, Billie Joe (B.J.) Schulle and Michelle, Deanna Poen and Jon, Kevin Schulle and Rachel, Angela Ellison and Mike, and Wendy Proctor; six great-grandchildren and spouses, Casey Schulle, Bryan Schulle, Jarrett Schulle and Laura, Ashlyn Schulle, Caton Poen, and Eddie Poen; one great-great-granddaughter, Allisyn Schulle; and several nieces and nephews.
