Jarold D. Comer, 76, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at his residence in Abilene, Texas The son of the late Neva (Ellis) and Clarence Comer, he was born on June 7, 1933 in Longview, Texas, and graduated from high school in Pampa before attending college. Jarold joined American National Insurance Company in 1957 as an agent in its Pampa district office where he later served as assistant district manager. He has since served in various capacities in the Abilene district office, the home office in Galveston, the Greater Mid-West regional office and the southwestern regional office located in Suite 102, 2449 South Willis in Abilene. During his 35-year career with American National, Mr. Comer distinguished himself by qualifying seven times for membership in the company's president's club. He was a leading producer six times and received the Executive Eagle Award three times. Jarold married Sherrie Johnston on March 7, 1956 in Clovis, New Mexico. Since 1964, he had been a resident of Abilene. He was a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ. Jarold is survived by his wife, Sherrie Johnston Comer of Abilene; daughter, Jan Comer of Abilene; brother, Harold Comer and wife Jean of Pampa; two nieces; one nephew; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. There will be a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in Elmwood Memorial Park for family and friends. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 209 So. Danville, Bldg. B, Suite 107, Abilene, TX 79605.
