Janet Jergins

Janet Susan Leavell Jergins 71, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on April 6, 2025 in Dallas, Texas.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Friday the 11th of April at Hillcrest Church of Christ with Norm Archibald, officiating. Burial will precede at 9:30 am at Buffalo Gap Cemetery. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Janet was born in Snyder, Texas to Austin and Elizabeth Leavell on December 13, 1953. She went to school at Snyder High School. She graduated with a Biology Degree from Lubbock Christian in 1972 and later received her Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Abilene Christian in 1989. She married Phillip Jergins on December 31, 1993 in Abilene, Texas. She worked as a Marriage and Family Therapist for 36 years and as a Clinical Supervisor for the MFT program for over 20 years. She was involved in her church at Hillcrest Church of Christ, the Creative Arts Club and was a member of Studio 13 as an encaustic artist and painter. In addition to her work and art Janet loved being a mother to her children and was a mother figure to many others as a "mother of the heart". She cherished being a "YaYa" to her grandchildren, loved spending time with her family and friends and had many hobbies and projects including writing a book, tending to her garden, remodeling and decorating her home, playing the piano, and countless other creative endeavors. She loved to travel and had been on many trips across the world including Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe and enjoyed visiting countless beaches and loved road trips in her cherished red convertible. Janet loved life and sharing its joys with all that knew and loved her.

Janet was preceded in death by her father Austin Leavell and mother Elizabeth Leavell and sister-in-law Cathy Leavell.

Janet is survived by her husband Phillip Jergins, children Amanda Armstrong and spouse Andrew, Matthew Musick and spouse Sarah, Lynn Spivey and spouse John, Mark Leavell her grandchildren Melody and Moses Musick and Jordan, Austin and William Armstrong step-sons Joshua Jergins and spouse Garolyn and children Cheyenne, Kal-el, Cordell and Paisley and Jonathan Jergins and spouse Meredith and children Jameson and Jenny Kate as well as numerous beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The Pallbearers will be Andrew Armstrong, Mac Leavell, Matt Lee, Jeff Neely, Philip Lee, and Tim Lee.
