Janet Vidas Crockett, 66, of Abilene, died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at her residence. She fought a courageous battle with ALS and passed peacefully into her saviors arms with her husband and son by her side.
Born in Oak Park, Illinois on July 4, 1947, Janet was the daughter of Marie (Robbins) and William Charles Vidas. She was an avid tennis player and taught tennis for years while raising her children. She received her bachelor degree from Texas Women’s University. She was an Occupational Therapist and owner of Focus Therapies. She was an active member of Cherry Heights Baptist Church in Clyde.
Janet met Larry G. Crockett while working in Huntsville, Texas at a prison. They loved to tell people they met in prison. They were married on July 1, 1990 in Las Vegas.
Janet is survived by her husband, Larry G. Crockett of Abilene; son and daughter-in-law, Rick Gilbert and Christine of Castle Rock, Colorado; daughter and son-in-law, Cinde Gray and Rick of Abilene; Kathy Treadway of Supply, NC; Diana Kendall of Gresham, Oregon; seven grandchildren, Ashley Rowell of Iron Mountain, MI, Arica Gray and Amber Hidalgo of Abilene; Blake Gray of Carlsbad, NM; Michelle Johnson, Michael Johnson and James Kendall of Gresham, Oregon; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Cherry Heights Baptist Church (729 Gashouse Rd) in Clyde, Texas with Mike Terrill officiating. Arrangements are being made by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Jan Crockett’s name to Cherry Heights Baptist Church (PO Box 1477, Clyde, Texas 79510) or the ALS Association (8705 Shoal Creek Blvd. #114, Austin, Texas 79757).
