Charlotte Janeene Smith Kerley, 85, of Abilene passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2022.
Janeene was born June 16, 1936 is Scurry County, Texas to Gordon Clay Smith and Mariola Logan Smith. She was raised in Snyder, Texas. She graduated from Snyder High School where she was a member of the Lucky 13 club and served on the year book committee.
She attended North Texas State University and Abilene Christian University with a focus on interior design. She married Ed Kerley June 18, 1955 and settled in Abilene in 1957 where she continued her love of design and gardening and began a 24-year career at Baack Florist.
She retired from Baack Florist and immediately began volunteering at the Grace Museum. Her warm smile and helping heart were a welcome gift to the Grace volunteering over 3,000 hours. In 2013 she was awarded the distinction of Volunteer of Year by the Grace Museum. She served 10 years on the Los Aficionados board and participated in numerous fundraising events for the Grace.
She was a gifted artist, potter and gardener. She enjoyed her bridge club, bible study fellowship and the many friendships she had through her organizations.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ed of 61 years and her son, Dr. Jesse Dirk Kerley.
She is survived by her son, Ty Kerley and wife Vicki of Ardmore, OK; daughter Shona Muccini and husband Steve of Austin; daughter-in-law Cathy Kerley of Denton, grandchildren, Casey Kerley and wife Melissa of Abilene, Dalton Kerley of Abilene, Ethan Yndo and Oliver Yndo both of Austin. David Steele and wife Michelle of Carrolton, Chad Steele of Abilene, Julia Bourque and husband Ashton of Austin. Great-grandchildren, Marissa, Charlotte, Mason, Aiden and Adylen, Katie Sharrard and Preston of Azle, and Connie Tedrick of Lubbock.
Janeene lived a beautiful life in Christ and love and inspired so many. She will be in our thoughts and prayers forever and always.
Family visitation is 5:30 to 7:30p.m. Friday April 1st at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Services will be 10a.m. Saturday April 2nd at Southern Hills Church of Christ in Abilene. Graveside service will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Snyder, Texas at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Mike Kerley, Brent Taylor, Casey Kerley, Dalton Kerley, Ethan Yndo, Oliver Yndo, Steve Muccini, David Steele and Chad Steele.
