Jane (Spears) Roberts
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who ask receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."
Matthew 7:7-8
Jane (Spears) Roberts of Abilene, Texas, passed away on April 30, 2014, surrounded by family with love and thankfulness for the blessing of her life.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 6th, at Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, with graveside services to follow at 2 p.m., in Throckmorton Cemetery.
Jane is remembered for her selfless commitment as an accomplished teacher, her strength and compassion for others, and most of all, her loving generosity as a wife and mom.
Born to Rufus and Mary Spears of Clyde, Jane enjoyed many life-long friendships from her high school and college years as a baton twirler, basketball and softball player, square dancing showcase and touring choir member. Jane received numerous honors in a variety of social and service clubs, student governments and coronations while maintaining an excellent status on the honor roll, as well as continuing accolades in hobbies such as photography, crochet and sewing. During these years, Jane would say her greatest honor came in marriage to her love at first sight and husband of 49 years, Teddy. Together, they enjoyed many accomplishments, but always honored each other as their greatest achievement.
Jane's joy for learning was a foundation in her talented method of teaching, a spotlight for local, state and national awards, and encouragement for students and co-workers blessed by her dedication. Most thankful of all, her own children, Troy and Jane, were also privileged to be her students and continue to learn from her example today.
Jane is preceded in death by her mother and father, Rufus and Mary Spears, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Pete and Della Roberts, her brother, Tommy Spears, and her sisters, Mary Ann (Spears) Adams and Frances (Spears) Boyd.
Jane is survived by her husband, Teddy Roberts, her son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Elizabeth Roberts, her daughter, Marley Jane Roberts, her pride-and-joy grandchildren, Ethan and Jacob Roberts, as well as her brothers, Billy and David Spears, her sister, Becky (Spears) Pence, her brother-in-law, Will Roberts, and several in-laws, nieces and nephews, including Rhonda Hurst and her mother, Linda Hicks.
