Jan Huie Martin, wife of R. David Martin, daughter of Sherman and Marie Huie, was born on August 26, 1956. She passed away May 28, 2015. Jan attended school in Dallas, Texas, graduating from W.T. White High School in 1974. She had a passion for art and attended McMurry University, earning a Bachelor of Art degree. Jan met and later married R. David Martin on August 8, 1981 in Dallas, Texas. They had two children, Katherine and Robert, and resided in Abilene, Texas throughout their married life. Jan’s life centered around her children. She loved her home and working in her flower gardens, making them true works of art. Jan enjoyed collecting antiques, bird watching and taking care of her beloved pets. She was a talented artist, which included oil painting, sketching and interior design. Jan is survived by her daughter, Katherine Martin {age 29 years} and her son, Robert Martin {age 23 years}. Jan is also survived by her mother, Marie Huie, of Dallas, Texas, her sister, Sheryl Culley and Sheryl’s husband, Steve, and their three children and families; her aunt, Vaniece Jacoby and son, Jack Jacoby. She is survived by her mother-in- law, Virginia Wright, and a brother – in -law, Dr. Peter K. Martin and his wife, Kay, and their three children and families; her husband’s step-brother, John Wright and his wife, Peggy, and their three children and families; her husband’s step- sister, Ouida Wright Garner, and her husband, Thomas. Jan is survived by many loving cousins and friends. Jan was preceded in death by her husband, R. David Martin, and her father, Sherman R. Huie. Jan was also preceded by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Carmichael and Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Huie, both of Eden, Texas. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 4th, 2015, outside in the beautiful Columbarium at the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal, 602 Meander, with The Reverend N. Luke Back officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. in Abilene. Jan will be interred in the Columbarium of the Heavenly Rest alongside her husband. Jan was a dedicated, loving, and caring mother, daughter, wife and sister. No one can replace Jan in our hearts. She will be greatly missed, but will always be with us.
