JAMES MURLE WALKER
Murle, 87, was born in Wilson, Oklahoma to Charles and Martha (Mullins) Walker. Soon after joining the army and moving to Kansas City, he met and married Sylvia Grafe on April 5, 1953. They were married for 66 years and had 4 children together.
Murle is survived by his wife, Sylvia; 3 sons, James (Esther) Walker, Terry (Sandy) Walker and David (Bobbi) Walker; 1 daughter, Dawn (Charles) Portwood; 18 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn (Stanley) Brantner and Thelma (John) Sharp; brothers, Robert (Carol) Walker, William (Becky) Walker, Danny (Linda) Walker and Donald (Vickie) Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Walker and Martha Nickerson; step mother, Flossie Walker; and sister, Charlene Bush.
While Murle was in the Army, he served in the 82nd Airborne in Fort Bragg, KS. He was a Green Beret and finished his 20-year career in Strategic Communication Command in 1971 as a Vietnam Veteran. During his time in the military, he earned a Bronze Star and retired with the rank of MSGE-8. After retiring from the Army, he worked for Sante Fe Railroad in Argentine, KS. Following his retirement, he and Sylvia enjoyed travelling around the country in their RV for over 20 years. Murle was also a proud Elder of the Argentine Church of Christ in Kansas City, Kansas.
A visitation for Murle will be held from 2-3 P.M. Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Maple Hill Funeral Home. Funeral service will begin at 3 P.M. Burial will be held in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene in Abilene, Texas under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Wounded Warriors.
