Matt Scott, 57, died Friday, February 16, 2007 in a local hospital. A funeral service, with David Wallace officiating, will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2007 in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will follow in the Fort Phantom Hill Cemetery.
Matt was born on November 25, 1949 in San Angelo, Texas to Perry W. and Dorothy Eaton Scott. He attended school and graduated from Abilene High in 1968. Matt was the Senior Class Favorite. He was an All State Basketball player for the Eagles and received many awards including a Basketball Scholarship to Stephen F. Austin. He transferred to Abilene Christian University where he was an All Conference Player for the Wildcats. He graduated from ACU in 1973 with a degree in Range Management Science. Matt had a career in oilfield trucking at Buckeye Supply where he worked with his brother Perry Scott. In 1985, he met the love of his life, Trisha Anderson. They were married in 1991. He was a member of the Woodlawn Church of Christ.
Matt was a member of the NRA. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and loved the great outdoors. He had a huge number of friends and never met a stranger. He always had a way of making people laugh and he was loved by everyone who knew him. His happiest moments were spent with his friends and family on the farm and at Rockport on his boat. He will be missed by everyone.
He was survived by his parents; his wife, Trisha Scott and their loving dog, May Day of Buffalo Gap; Trisha's son, Chad Dodson and his 3 children; Jayden, Braleigh, and Kylee of Potosi; his brother, Perry Scott and wife, Leanne of Abilene; two nieces, Kathryn Gilreath and her husband, Scott; and Caroline Scott. Serving as pallbearers will be Dennis Arn, Hires Gage, Mike Clark, Eulogio Rodriguez, Barry Cross, and Jack Gilreath.
