James Cecil (Jim) Roe, 70, of Abilene passed from this life on March 18, 2013 in Crowley, TX.
Jim was the son of Cecil and Mary Roe born in Oklahoma City, OK on January 26, 1943 and was raised in Abilene. After graduating from Abilene High, he entered the Army and served as a Military Policeman. Jim married ‘Lizabeth Thomason on September 18, 1965. He joined the Abilene Police Department in 1966 and proudly served until his retirement in 1996. During his tenure, he served as a Safety Cruiser officer, Patrolman, motorcycle traffic officer, Patrol Sergeant and Detective in the Criminal Investigations Division. After retirement from the APD, he joined the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department as a court bailiff in the 42nd District Court until his retirement in 2011. He dedicated his life to serving and protecting others.
He was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Mary Roe, biological mother Effie Gipson, brother Lee Addison, and sisters, Delores Addison, Marie Turinsky and Mel Kruger.
He is survived by his wife, ‘Lizabeth Roe of Abilene, sons James C. Roe, II and wife Kim of Arlington, John T. Roe and wife Lea of Arlington, daughter Mary-Margaret (Margi) McCleskey and husband Todd of Burleson, brother Les Addison of Fremont, CA, grandchildren Taren Latta and Lacy Roe of Arlington and Carson and Camryn McCleskey of Burleson, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and life-long best friend, Bob Jackson.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 25, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, with Rev. David Cason officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be James C. Roe, II, John T. Roe, Todd McCleskey, Bob Jackson, Jmeyer Barbian, David Varner and Andy Reece.
