James E. "Jim" Miller, 86, of Abilene, passed away Monday, September 5, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, September 9, 2011 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Dr. Jeff Reid will officiate.
Jim was born, January 20, 1925 to Estil and Edith (Johnson) Miller in Miller, West Virginia. He graduated from West Virginia University and served in the United States Army during World War II. He married Virginia "Ginger" Harper on January 9, 1954 in Cold Spring, Kentucky. Jim was a Forrester in Colorado. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. Jim moved to Abilene from Denver, Colorado in 2003. He was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marge Warren and Jean Cole. Jim is survived by his wife, Ginger Miller of Abilene; his son, Michael Scot Miller and wife Jami Adams, M.D. also of Abilene; his daughter, Debra Kay McVicker and husband John McVicker, M.D of Denver, Colorado; and three grandchildren, Dan McVicker (Stephanie), Sarah McVicker-Waters (Meghan) and Garrett Miller.
