James was born May 21, 1929 in Blum, Texas to James and Nellie Mae Keenum. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War Era from 1952 to 1954, where he was stationed in Germany. James worked for Vought Aircraft Industries in Grand Prairie, Texas for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Austin and G.O. Keenum; and seven sisters, Lola Mae Nixon, Lois Leslie, Ollie Bell Watson, Mary Rich, Gladys Long, Maude Rancher and Vivian Martin.
James is survived by his son, Steve Keenum and wife Susan of Abilene; three grandchildren, Case Keenum and wife Kimberly, Lauren Robbins and husband Justin, and Allison Keenum; as well as one great-grandchild, Wren Robbins.
