James Llyndle Howard, age 88, died Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at his residence in Abilene. Visitation will be Friday evening, August 5th from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 6th at 10 a.m. at Southern Hills Church of Christ with Danny Minton, Casey Overcamp and Bill Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home. James Llyndle Howard was born on November 11, 1916 in Plainview, Texas to parents James Weaver Howard and Bertha Day Howard. He graduated high school in Pueblo, Colorado and was a graduate of the University of Denver. He married Annetta DeLois Davidson in Kansas City, MO on November 11, 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned and operated a small hardware business. James was a member of the Southern Hills Church of Christ, Kiwanas Club, Lions Club, Rocky Mountain Movie Club, RSVP, VITA and after retirement did financial service and tax preparations for Sr. Citizens. He served as an elder and deacon at Lakewood Church of Christ in Lakewood, Colorado. He was always looking for ways to serve people and the church. James was preceded in death by his parents; and is lovingly survived and remembered by his wife, DeLois Davidson Howard of Abilene; two daughters: DeLynda and husband, Will Gray of Abilene; and Lynette and husband, Jim Overcamp of Los Angles, CA. Also one sister: Bernice Johnson of Austin and four grandchildren: Holly and husband, Bryon Rockwell; Casey Overcamp and wife, Kara; Denise and husband, Zach Galbraith; and Bill Gray. Also two great grandchildren: Noah Galbraith and Elliana Overcamp. Memorials may be made to Mountain States Childrens Home or The Christian Homes of Abilene.
