James Harris, "James" to his friends, passed on Friday morning, January 19, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, January 27, 2007, at Plum Street United Methodist Church. The Rev. Iziar Lankford, Pastor, will officiate. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery.
James was born June 17, 1914 in Mooreville, Texas. He later moved to Abilene where he had lived for more than 70 years. He was employed for many years by Abilene Casket Company, and then Affiliated Funeral Supply. James had also played baseball with the Abilene Blue Sox.
A man of faith, James was a member of the Plum Street United Methodist Church for more than 70 years, serving as a wonderful example and role model. He loved his church and his Pastor, the Rev. Iziar Lankford. His smile and love will be deeply missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to have shared a part of his life.
Beloved husband of the late Iverlee Harris (Baby Sue) and father of the late Marie Jackson, affectionately known as Ree, preceded James in death. He is survived by his daughter Patricia (Wilson) Dowell and her husband, Joseph Dowell, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; grandfather of Uvanda Thomas of Warner Robbins, Georgia, Joseph Dowell III of Atlanta, Georgia, Howard Williams and Akeba Means, both of Houston, Texas; Meko Hannah of Los Angeles, California and 10 great-grandchildren.
