James L. Halford, 83, of Abilene, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Hendrick Hospice Care. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4515 South 14th Street. Rev. Chris Turner will officiate. Burial will follow in the Buffalo Gap Cemetery. There will be a viewing on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

James was born on December 8, 1938, in Barnsdall, Oklahoma to Harry Lawrence Halford and Jessie (Livingston) Halford. He served 20 years in the U.S. Navy and retired. His family moved to Wilburton, Oklahoma where he attended and graduated from Eastern Oklahoma State College. After graduating, his family moved to Gravette, Arkansas and he worked for the U.S. Post Office. In 1991, he and his wife Jewell moved to Abilene where he lived the remainder of his life. James was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, a 32nd degree Mason, and a friend of Bill's for 49 years. James loved to have family gatherings where he sang and played the guitar. He passed the love of music onto several family members. He was loved dearly and will be missed by all his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ted Halford, and three sisters, Harriett "Rett'' Fuller, Barbara Backus, Nelda Lowder and one nephew, Daniel Maberry. James is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jewell Halford and two daughters, Jaime Tindall and husband David Tindall of Abilene, and Tracy Pierce and husband Eric Pierce of Keller, Texas, three grandsons, Justin Brodrick and Kayla Brodrick, Casey Tindall and wife Josie Tindall, Kelly Tindall and wife Skyler Tindall and one granddaughter Jessica Pierce. He had 7 great grandchildren, Hailey Brodrick, Tyler Brodrick, Beau Brodrick, Audrey Tindall, Crimson Tindall, RJ and Everleigh Pierce. He is also survived by nieces: Debbie McGaraugh, Pam Parker, Teddie Spano, Cathy Spano; nephews: Hop Backus, Kim Sledge, Jeff Maberry and Blake Halford; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.

Eric Pierce, David Tindall, Casey Tindall, Kelly Tindall, Justin Brodrick and Tyler Brodrick will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made in honor of James L. Halford to the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4515 S. 14th Street, Abilene, Texas 79605. The family of James L. Halford wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Hendrick Hospice Care and the many doctors and nurses that cared for him.
