Funeral Services for James E. Foster of the Wylie Community will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, May 25, 2014, at Oldham Lane Church of Christ with Chris McCurley and Larry Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Potosi Cemetery. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
James was born in Abilene, Texas to Edna Skipper and James Barnett Foster. The only dad he knew was his loving step dad, Vernon V. Moore. He married Linda O’Dell on August 6, 1960. He was a member of the Oldham Lane Church of Christ. James retired from Lockheed Martin after 36 years as a master machinist and toolmaker. He was also a talented steel guitar player and played with many country musicians in Abilene and the surrounding area. After his retirement he helped his friend and fellow steel guitar player, Bob (Bobby) Rains, design and build the Rains Steel Guitar, which is well know in the steel guitar industry for its excellent quality and sound.
His survivors include his wife, Linda of the home; a son, James V. (Jim) Foster of Rowlett; and two daughters, Carla Cofer and Cathy Gillit (Randy) both of Abilene; seven grandchildren, Lindi Cofer Bruning (Bryan), Zachary Cofer (Tara), Jamie Cofer Sierra (Andrew), all of Abilene, Brittany Foster Brownlow (Stephen) of Carrollton, TX, Caston Gillit, Keely Gillit and Carly Gillit of Abilene; six great-grandchildren, Jaxon Cofer, Landon Cofer, Kinzley Cofer, Collin Bruning, Ella Bruning, and Dillon Bruning, all of Abilene. He is also survived by his aunt, Mamie Skipper Horn of Friendswood, several cousins and a host of friends. He was an only child who married into the O’Dell family of seven siblings and became one of their brothers in love.
James was preceded in death by his mother and dad, Vernon and Edna Moore (Jonas) of Abilene and his maternal grandparents, Tom and Ella Skipper.
