James W. "Jim" Clark, 84, of Abilene, died Friday, November 27, 2009. Funeral services will be at 11:30 am on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Rev. Janice Six will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will follow at 1:00 pm at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Mr. Clark may be viewed from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.
Jim was born July 28, 1925, in a farm home six miles north of Logan in Phillips County, Kansas to Wesley Frank Clark and Edna Lucille (Atkinson) Clark. After completing his elementary education in a one-room country school, he graduated from Logan High School in May of 1942. After three semesters of college, he entered the United States Army in the spring of 1944. He participated in the final stages of the Italian Campaign as a member of the 473rd Infantry Regimental Combat Team. The decoration of which he was most proud was the Combat Infantry Badge. He also received two campaign stars for combat in Northern Italy.
After leaving the service in 1946, he returned to Kansas State College (now University) where he graduated with a B.S. Degree in Geology, in May of 1948. Jim had worked independently as a Geologist since 1971.
Jim moved to Abilene in 1950 and married Jo Anne Nott in Abilene on March 21, 1957. She preceded him in death on July 27, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Wilma Reese.
Jim is survived by two daughters, Katy Young and her husband Michael of Hawley, and Kelle Snyder of Abilene; one brother, Charles D. Clark, of Alliance, Ohio and four grandchildren, Jenna, Joel, Robbie and Casey.
