James Robert (Bob) Christopher passed away May 31, 2016 in Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm on Friday, June 3, 2016 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Highland Church of Christ, 425 Highland Ave., Abilene, TX 79605 with Jonathan Storment officiating. Arrangements are being made by The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Bob was born in Wichita Falls, Texas to Jack and Lois Christopher on May 5, 1935. He graduated from Wichita Falls High School and attended Midwestern State University and Abilene Christian College, now Abilene Christian University – Class of 1957. He married the love of his life, Lu Dollar on May 25, 1957 and they recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.
Bob's professional career included numerous years as an Insurance Agent for Republic National Life Insurance Company. He spent a majority of his career in the Oil & Gas Industry as a Petroleum Landman. He also worked with Children with Special Needs in the Wylie School District.
Bob served on many civic committees including The United Way, Christian Homes, Taylor County Cancer Society, and the Abilene Chamber of Commerce.
Throughout his life, Bob had a great passion for the military and Dyess Air Force Base. He participated in ROTC in his High School Years and served 5 years in the Army Reserves. He was a member of the Military Affairs Committee; Chairman of the Honorary Commanders Program; Honorary Vice-Commander of the 7th Bomb Wing at Dyess AFB; and 1st Honorary Commander of the Year 2002. He and Lu considered it one of their greatest honors to welcome home airmen after their tour of duties in serving our country.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father as well as his brother and only sibling, Billy Jack Christopher.
He is survived by his wife Lu; his daughter Michelle and her husband Mark Allen of Graham, Texas; and his son Michael and his wife Stacy of Monument, Colorado. His six grandchildren include Lane Allen of Graham, Jack Allen and wife Courtney of Dallas, Matt Allen of Dallas, Hubbell Allen of Fort Worth, Harrison Christopher of Monument, Colorado, and Shelby Kate Christopher of Monument, Colorado.
Memorials may be given to Christian Homes of Abilene, P.O. Box 270, Abilene, TX 79604, or a charity/organization of your choice. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to our many friends, especially to Royce and Joyce Carr for their extreme generosity, hospitality, and lifelong friendship.
