James H. Carroll, 77, of Abilene, passed away Friday, January 2, 2009 in Dallas, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 in the chapel at Southern Hills Church of Christ, 3666 Buffalo Gap Road. Phil Ware will officiate. Burial will follow in the Willow Cemetery in Haskell, Texas. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2009 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
June 6, 1931, James was born in Weinert, Texas to Leonard L. Carroll and Lillie Mae (Miller) Carroll. He married Mary Elizabeth Glass on February 14, 1952 in Haskell, Texas. James was employed as a Seismograph Engineer for Shell Oil for 33 years. James and his family lived in numerous places during his career with Shell. In 1991, James moved from Houston to Abilene. He was a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ.
James was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Dessie Mae Burkhalter.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Carroll, of Abilene; two sons, John L. Carroll and his wife Lezlie, of Winter Haven Florida, Steven W. Carroll and his wife Cathy, of Clyde; one daughter, Patricia Harper and her husband Terrell, of Lakeland, Florida; one sister, Doris Wells, of Trent; five grandchildren, Pam Harper, Amy Carroll, Erin Consuegra, James L. Carroll and Nicole Carroll; one great-granddaughter, Ashley Carroll and several nieces and nephews.
The loves of James' life were his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his great-granddaughter.
