James A. Brown, 73, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018. A committal service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 West Lake Road. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
James was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 22, 1944 to James and Theresa (Brandt) Brown. He served in the United States Marine Corps.
James married Mary B. Carpenter on March 10, 1973 in Michigan City, Indiana. He worked for J.B. Hunt for 10 years and for Bethlehem Steel Corp for 21 years as a welder. Abilene has been his home for the past 16 years, moving here from Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Betty Archer and one brother, Charles Brown.
James is survived by his wife, Mary Brown of Abilene; his son, Darren Brown and wife Pamela, also of Abilene; his brother, John Brown of Beaufort, South Carolina; his sister, Alice Chronister, also of Beaufort, South Carolina; and two grandchildren, Damien Brown and Dylan Brown.
Memorials may be made in honor of James to Rescue the Animals or the Taylor Jones Humane Society.
