Jim Barnett, 79, a longtime resident of Plains, Texas and current resident of Abilene, Texas went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Hendrick Medical Center with his family by his side.
Jim was born to Omar Futhey and Beatrice Fay (Whitesides) Barnett on January 3, 1930, in Rochester, Texas. He lived in Morton, Texas 27 years before moving to Plains in 1957. He lived in Plains for 41 years. Jim retired from Eddins-Walsher Butane Company in 1992. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Plains and served as the assistant church treasurer. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge, and volunteered with the Plains Volunteer Fire Department and the Plains Little League Baseball Association. In 1998 he and his wife, Mae, moved to Abilene where he served as a deacon of Elmcrest Baptist Church. Jim also enjoyed competing in several bowling leagues.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Anna Mae (Brock); daughter, Pam and her husband, Eddie Tingle; son, David and his wife, Debi Barnett; son, Shaun and his wife, Keri Barnett; six grandchildren, Emily and husband, Michael Nicolaou, Jason and wife, Susan Tingle, Brenna Burns, Dana Barnett; Travis Barnett, and Kyle Barnett; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Syble Fay and husband, Dan Moore.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dr. Donald Ray Barnett.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, July 31, 2009, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas. Funeral services to celebrate Jim's life will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2009, at 10:00 am at the Elmcrest Baptist Church, 517 N. Pioneer Drive, Abilene, Texas. Interment will follow at 2:30 pm Saturday in Double Mountain Cemetery, Peacock, Texas.
