Jacqueline Cochran

Jackie Cochran, 79, of 3280 Sayles Blvd., passed away at Hendrick Medical Center after a long struggle, on Tuesday, May 30, 2006. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 2, 2006, at 2:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, with Reverend Mike Woodard of Southwest Park Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Jackie was born August 16, 1926 in Ranger, Texas to Sam and Lily Anderson. She married Beryl Cochran on September 28, 1948 in Hobbs, New Mexico. She was a long time member of the Senior Class of Southwest Park Baptist Church. Jackie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carmen and Jack Smith of Rowena; two sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Rhonda Cochran of Abilene, and Phillip and Joyce Cochran of Abilene; two stepsons Danny Cochran and his wife Jayne of Georgia, and Donny Cochran of Indiana; nine grandchildren, Andy Smith, Stephanie Hite, Brandi Hines, Phil Cochran, Amy McClean, Robin Ochoa, Shelia Rothemich, Julie McNeely and Blake Cochran. She is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ken Anderson of Canyon, Monte Anderson of Florida, Jim Anderson of Arkansas and numerous nieces and nephews. Jackie was the fourth of eleven children and preceded in death by her husband, Beryl in 1982, her parents, Sam and Lily Anderson; three brothers, Horace, Jerry Mac, and Sammy; and four sisters, Dortha, Layvonne, Doris and Dorophene. She leaves behind many children and parents she touched in her own special way within her child care business.
